Is There a Volkswagen Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty?

When you invest in a Volkswagen automobile, you don’t just get a terrific car. You also get the Volkswagen bumper-to-bumper warranty — one of the auto industry’s best. Here, North Penn Volkswagen explains the ins and outs of the brand’s warranty program, with specific focus on bumper-to-bumper coverage.
The Volkswagen Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty, Defined
The Volkswagen bumper-to-bumper warranty — also known as the new vehicle limited warranty — comes with all new VW models and lasts for four years / 50,000 miles. During this period, it covers defects in materials or workmanship in areas such as the engine, electronics, and transmission.
This does not cover normal wear and tear to components such as tires or brakes, or routine maintenance for things such as oil changes and fluid top-offs. Also, should you decide to sell the vehicle during the warranty period, the warranty is fully transferable at no cost.
There are several other vehicular components that are warrantied, but for a shorter length of time. For example, the key-fob battery is warrantied for one year/12,000 miles, while the exterior paint is covered for three years/36,000 miles.
Similarly, certain areas are warrantied for longer than the bumper-to-bumper term. These include corrosion perforation, which is covered for seven years/100,000 miles, and — for EV owners — high-voltage battery coverage that lasts eight years / 100,000 miles.
What About Extended Warranty Coverage?
If you buy a vehicle at our Colmar, PA Volkswagen dealership and plan on driving it for a long time, you should consider the Drive Easy Protection Plan. It provides extended warranty coverage for up to 10 years / 150,000 miles and comes in three tiers.
The highest tier, Platinum, covers virtually everything the bumper-to-bumper warranty does. At the Gold tier, covered components include the powertrain, fuel system, and climate control. Meanwhile the Powertrain tier covers just what its name implies: the engine, transmission, and, if you own a hybrid or EV, the car’s hybrid or electric system.
