In the North American lineup of new Volkswagen models, there currently aren’t any hybrid vehicles available. However, there are plans for vehicles to arrive in the coming years. The sporty compact car uses a 1.5-liter TSI® 16-valve DOHC turbo four-cylinder engine to generate up to 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Maximum fuel economy is an EPA-estimated 29 mpg in the city and a whopping 40 mpg on the highway.

Volkswagen ID.4

If you really want an electrified model, consider the Volkswagen ID.4, which is an all-electric SUV. The compact SUV is powered by a spirited electric motor or two motors, if you opt for the available all-wheel drive system. With maximum power, it delivers up to 335 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of net torque (in AWD models). It can also accelerate to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. The EV’s RWD variant also boasts a maximum EPA-estimated 291-mile electric driving range on a full charge.

Volkswagen ID Buzz

There’s also an efficient all-electric minivan in the Volkswagen lineup. The spacious Volkswagen ID Buzz is available with seating for six or seven, including industry-leading third-row legroom. It also provides up to 144.5 cubic feet of cargo space, if you fold the rear seats down. The minivan has an EPA-estimated 234-mile electric range (or 231-mile range with the available 4MOTION® AWD system). It’s compatible with 200kw DC fast charging, which allows you to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes.
