The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas is certainly a family-friendly SUV. Space is a big priority for many families, so many drivers wonder about the VW Atlas cargo space behind the second row. North Penn Volkswagen unpacks all the details.

Cargo Space

The 2026 Volkswagen Atlas is classified as a midsize SUV. It has three rows of seating and a large 20.6 cubic-foot cargo area. If you fold the 50/50-split folding third row down, the space maximizes to 55.5 cubic feet.

The second row splits 60/40 and, if you fold it down completely, you’ll have a whopping 96.6 cubic feet of cargo space in all. The SUV is available with an Easy Open and Close hands-free liftgate, which opens with a kick of the foot below the rear bumper when the key is nearby.

Passenger Space

There’s comfortable seating for seven inside the three-row SUV. It’s also available with six-passenger seating, if you prefer to swap out the second-row bench seat for captain’s chairs. The seats are clad in leatherette, but there are also leather seating surfaces available in higher trims.

Interior Features

The stylish cabin is designed with comfort in mind. It features heated and ventilated front seats and Climatronic® three-zone automatic climate control. It also comes with standard heated steering wheel with shift paddles, and available heated second-row seats (in the outboard seating positions). It’s also available with a large panoramic sunroof, which makes the cabin feel even more spacious and adds extra sunlight or a great view of a starlit sky.
